Last day at Awesome High School what can I say……I feel that my most postive and most memorable experience here at Awesome High School has been being able to teach in front of the kids here at the school. I feel that this was a great opportunity to get to have. This is where all of us interns have been able to practice for what we want to do with our future. On top of this I have learned so much about teaching. I feel we have been able to see a variety of teachers and their methods. This was a great chance for us to see what are good ideas and what ideas are not so good. Everyday we came here Dr. B was teaching us information that will all help us throughout our careers as teachers…many many ideas!!! Also he helped us accomplishing goals that we have set for ourselves as classroom teachers and letting us reseach, discuss, and experience all sorts of situations. I have to say that this has been a great experience and that all the other interns in other schools and with other professors missed out. I feel very lucky to have been picked for Awesome High School.

Today we had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Z. She is a first year teacher here at Awesome High School. I can see why she has received the Promise Teacher of the yer award. She is a energetic, young, and fun teacher. I can see that she has an attitude and personality that can match with the students’ here at Awesome High School.  I believe that she has establised a great relationship with her students that has made them respect her. She has earned thier trust and respect. I feel that everything she talked about made me so excited about student teaching and my career as a teacher/coach. She made me motivated again to stick and stay strong with everything. We all as college students are going through the same stress, work, and lack of sleep. I am very glad she got to come and talk to us today! She made me open up my eyes and see what I have to look forward to.

Describe: Every Tuesday I have a physical activies for elmentary students class. This class is really pushing me to want to coach/teach elementary students. I have thought about teaching this profession very much, but at the sametime as soon as I came to Awesome High School I loved the high school enviornment.  Everytime I am in my class on Tuesday nights I want to be a p.e teacher and everytime I go my passion about physical education for the little kidos gets stronger.

Analysis:

Lesson Plans

February 25, 2009 by kb1248block

Describe: This morning in class we talked about lesson plans. There are two main lesson plans the Hunter and 5E. It was interesting to compare the two and see how many similarities and differences there are between the two. Both lesson plans have the same type of warm up, the changes start to occur in the stages.

Analyze: Lesson plans are like road maps. These roads maps that I will follow will help guide me through each day. The more detailed the lesson plan the more information I will have on the day of the lesson. In past classes when I have written out lesson plans I included both types of plans. I did not even know this at the time.in class it was really helpful having to seperate the two lesson plans. I really learned how one was student based and the other teacher based. By learning these lesson plan types I can really see how important it is to incorporate both the Hunter and the 5E.

Reflection: In the future, I will be able to use both type of lesson plans pretty easily…hopefully. I know I will be able to. I think I will because I want to teach from both of these view points, student and teacher based. I think it is very important to do so. In a physical education class (if this is what I teach) I feel having teacher and student based lesson plans are crucial. There has to be a teacher to guide and direct in the beginning, middle, and ending of the class. For the activity minor direction might be needed with some lessons. The main thing is having the lessons set up to follow a procedure. Have the beginning and ending of a p.e class the same, especially for the little ones. In conclusion, I know I will use both types of lessons. I will be sure that my students will be able to accept and follow both types with me as their teacher.

Describe: This past Monday was our first day to meet with our ELL student and our cooperating teachers. I was very excited to start participating with our teachers and students at AHS. I first went to  a personal fitness class with Coach S this class could not have been more perfect for me. To add to my excitement I found out that Coach S is wanting to start a powerlifting program here at AHS! I would love to be able to contribute anything and everything to getting a club started for powrlifting even better getting it recognized as a UIL sport. This made me think that I could help coach cheerleading in the fall and powerlifting in the spring. After meeting with our cooperating teacher we met with our ELL students. I had no idea what to expect with my ELL student. Once we met it was everything i eexpected and more!

Analyze: When meeting with Coach S and his class I really saw all the different types of students. It is one thing to talk about all sorts of behaviors in a class room but to actually see, hear, and experience it puts my future career in perspective. I worked with the students and made sure they knew I was there to help them in anyway. It is scary to see how students today have changed even since i have graduated.

My ELL student meeting went great! I felt so relaxed with him. I think that this is how I know I want to work with kids. I feel this way with even the kids in my cooperating teachers class. Wen I sat down with the ELL student we hit it off and started talking about my life and his as well. I think he knew I was there to help him and get to know him. On the second day I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my ELL student. But the way I work better is on the spot. I picked up a sports magazine and knew it would come to me once I sat down with him. I made sure that what we did involved his interest. We talked about all of his favorite things, which I made him write in English and Spanish (for me) then we talked about soccer. This meeting ws a success.

Reflection: With this class I learned that if I made myself approachable the kids were more able to respond to me on the second day with our cooperating teachers. I really love the relationship based approach. I think this is the way i wasnt to run my classroom. This way the students feel the teacher really respects them. I know though if I do have a rougher group of kids I will have to be strict(in some cases)and consistent. I believe if i let up at first they could really take control of the class.

My ELL student meetings now will become a little more school based from here on out. School based but without him knowing or feeling it is work. He told me he has touble with Biology. I asked him what his grade was in the class and he said 86! I was shocked. I was like you want an “A” right? He replied with yes. Now I know i have a motivated hard working student that wants to do his best with school and learning.

Describe

This semester I am doing my student block at Awesome High School. At first I was worried about the drive, but once I got  to this high school I loved it, and the drive was the last thing on my mind. I know this semester I am going to learn so much more then I already have, from just three weeks. There are many things I want to pick for this blog. My goal for this semester is to really learn about classroom management and how to handle specific situations that will occur in my future gym/classroom. The one thing that I have learned this semester is how to handle the “disrupting student”. Dr. B taught us a great way to keep an eye on that sneaky student while maintaining a learning enviornment for the other students. Also how to approach the student without being threatening. I believe these are my concerns which I feel better about now, but not completely. I won’t feel 100 % confident until I handle the situatioon on my own. I do not want to make any student hate, dislike, or have issues with their teacher (me).
